BMS faculty member and TU Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Martin Grötschel has been appointed as the new president of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften).

The official handover of the presidency took place on 6 June 2015 at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. German Chancellor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Angela Merkel was in attendance to present the ceremonial address. Prof. Grötschel was elected into office at the end of 2014 as successor to Prof. Dr. Dres. h. c. Günter Stock whose ten-year term had come to an end.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a learned society with a three-hundred-year-old tradition of uniting outstanding scholars and scientists across national and disciplinary boundaries. It was founded in 1700 by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646 – 1716) and 78 Nobel prizewinners have helped shape its history.
