The BMS Phase I scholarship pays 1,000 € per month to cover the student’s living expenses in Berlin.

The BMS Phase I scholarship is typically granted for 18 months plus an additional 6 months (4 semesters in total).

To apply for a BMS Phase I scholarship, you must submit an online application via the BMS website in the first application round: https://www.math-berlin.de/application

If you have been admitted to the BMS Phase I without a Phase I scholarship, you cannot apply for one at a later point in your Phase I studies. However, you may still apply for gap funding between Phase I and Phase II and/or for a Phase II scholarship.

If you have been admitted to the BMS Phase I with a Phase I scholarship, you will receive a scholarship contract for 18 months (3 semesters) at first. During your 3rd semester, you will need to apply for an extension for the 4th semester. The deadline is typically in December/ January and you will receive detailed info on this via email by the BMS Liaison Officers.

Students in Phase I with sufficient German language skills are normally expected to support themselves by other means, either with student jobs like tutoring for undergraduate classes, or by applying for outside scholarships, for instance from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
